Entertainer’s kitchen come to life

There was major work to do for a couple coming home to a former rental property in Golflands. But with the help of Jag Kitchens, the true entertainer’s kitchen they envisioned turned out to be a smooth-sailing process.

As a keen baker and a cook, Annette Carey was never going to let a small kitchen cramp her style.

She and husband, Jason Carey, had bought their Golflands property many years ago and had been renting it out before deciding to “downsize” and turn it into a home.

“We’ve had a total renovation,” says Annette who acted as project manager for the makeover which saw the house shrink-wrapped for many months.

Naturally, the kitchen was a top priority.

“It was a cream one that came with the original house built in 1998. Everything about the house was looking old and tired and the kitchen was the same.”

The kitchen ran onto an adjoining small room at the front of the house which was impractical as well, says Annette.

Calling in the experts at Jag Kitchens in Botany’s Danske Mobler Home Centre, Annette met with designer Caroline Charman.

“A mutual friend just had her kitchen done and she was full of praise for Caroline so I was sold. Then when I met Caroline, we discovered we had another mutual friend!”

Caroline says it was a matter of treating the space as a blank canvas.

“Everything evolved as we went along and although Annette had gone abroad for a few months we managed to pick up where we left off and work with the architect’s design.”

With their children all grown up and having flown the nest, the Careys looked forward to creating a beautiful living space without the mishmash of items collected over the years.

And the result is simply breathtaking.

Black granite bench tops sparkle across an infinitely long space, with sleek lines running across, creating a minimalist appearance.

White cabinetry above and below run in a linear pattern, further enhancing the streamlined look with an ample oven ample oven, dish drawers and fridge built in with trim kits.

An open scullery stands where the room once was, and the kitchen is now three times the size of the former area, great for entertaining guests and flowing to the dining area.

“I do a lot of baking so all that bench space is fabulous,” says Annette. “We had 16 people in here for a dinner party here the other day!”

A teal splashback creates a calm, cool mood complementing the teal accents of seat cushion covers and drapes.

Best of all, the experience with Jag Kitchens has been as seamless as the kitchen design.

“Everything ran very smoothly and Caroline was really patient and understanding,” says Annette.

“It’s our hub of family life and even when somebody’s working in the kitchen, we can all happily co-exist in one big space.”
