A Dream Minimalist Kitchen
The Cutfield family started with a blank canvas when designing their minimalist kitchen in their newly built Maraetai home.
All they knew was that they wanted their kitchen to be the heart of the home. The ultra-modern minimalist kitchen sits in the centre of the home, flowing effortlessly into the living area to create a luxurious but comfortable family hub.
Mother and home owner Melody Cutfield says she and her husband wanted something that reflected their love of contemporary minimalist design and was practical for their family’s needs.
“Because the kitchen is at the centre of our home, and will be a seen by all our guests, we wanted it to be simple and uncluttered,” Melody says. “But we also wanted our children to feel at home here – and have easy access to everything.”
Melody says Jag Kitchens definitely delivered on their vision of a minimalist kitchen that was still family appropriate. The kitchen boasts sleek white cabinetry, complimented by a matte stainless steel fridge, black glass appliances and polished concrete floors. The black splashback adds a unique edge to the otherwise spotless white kitchen, while the crisp white benchtop is made from hardwearing engineered stone which looks beautiful and will stand the test of time.
When turned on, a strip of LED lights beneath the overhead cabinets creates a warm, romantic atmosphere within the space, reflecting beautifully off the black splashback. Modern handle-less drawers and plenty of storage space make for a clean, uncluttered kitchen area and help the family achieve their minimalist kitchen vision.
Melody says she had always wanted her home to be spacious and inviting, and her new kitchen fits the theme perfectly. She has nothing but praise for the designers of the Jag Kitchens design team.
“We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted when we went to Jag Kitchens and the team have brought it to life so easily,” she says. “Communication was awesome, and they were really easy to work with. They had a really awesome showroom so we could see aspects of different kitchens that we could use to create exactly what we wanted.”
A computer generated impression of what their kitchen would look like helped the family feel confident with their choices. Jag Kitchens’ focus was on materials that were easy to clean and low maintenance for the busy family while still in keeping with the contemporary theme.
The kitchen features Blum Legrabox drawers with Tip-On Blumotion push to open runners which compliments the clean handle-less look. The flooring is polished concrete and the splashback is black glass. Durable ‘Jag Acrylic’ high gloss cabinets for easy cleaning, and abrasion and stain-proof engineered stone countertops were the perfect choice.
Small additions were made to make the kitchen more practical for their young children, including simple, unobtrusive door handles on the pantry cupboard. A big part of the task was ensuring there was an effortless flow from the kitchen to the living area – the kitchen island helped achieve this. The breakfast bar is perfect for the kids to sit at while food is being made.
“I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to the team at Jag Kitchens in the future,” commends Melody.
