Trend Alert: Kitchen Island Splashbacks
If you’re in the process of redesigning your kitchen, you will have no doubt considered options for your splashback. The classic splashback provides style with functionality up against walls that are likely to be ‘splashed’ on, i.e. around your cook top and sink. But there is another splashback trending more than ever – the kitchen island splashback.
If your kitchen island is likely to be a high traffic area – i.e. sat at often for meals, snacks, homework, etc – a splashback that covers the area below the benchtop is a great design accent for both style and functionality. The additional durability added to this area will keep it safe from shoe scuffing, spills, and splashes. And even if your kitchen island is not such a high traffic area, the styles of kitchen island splashbacks make them a very enticing addition to your kitchen design, too!
Our picks for kitchen island splashbacks
Contrasting / Pop of Colour
A super popular option this year, that we don’t see stopping anytime soon. An alternate coloured splashback on your kitchen island can create depth and contrast to an other neutral kitchen. The current seasonal favourites are earthy tones – think muted greens, dusky blues and even charcoals.
Timber Panelling
With the scandi-trend showing no signs of slowing down, we’re still seeing plenty of timber and wooden elements utilised within kitchen designs. They work well as an additional neutral design feature that offers texture, without the risk of dating quickly. The work especially well in white or monochrome (black and white) kitchens.
Tiled Feature
Tiles are still favoured by many, and while they’re not always the best functional option for a traditional splashback (they’re a little more fiddly to keep clean!) they can be a great option for a kitchen island splashback. Keep things neutral with a classic subway tile, or add a little more character with a herringbone, colour or mosaic tile.
