Clarke family kitchen by Jag Kitchens

The Clark Family Megan Dyer | Jag KitchensBy removing a wall and replacing the old galley kitchen with a new Jag design, the Clark Family of Howick now have a superbly functional kitchen and a whole new open-plan living area.

“The original kitchen was decorated in white with black handles on the cabinets. Some of the cupboards were water-damaged and it was definitely past its best,” explains Jag Kitchens designer, Megan Dyer.

“It was also closed off from the dining room by a wall and a door, which made it feel quite confined. We had this wall removed and it really opened up and lightened the space. The result was a really smart and modern open plan living area with an excellent flow.”

Megan and her clients, the Clarks, were all thrilled with the outcome. They decided to stick to the original white theme with white glossy floor cabinets (Jag Acrylic Arctic White) and a white engineered stone bench. Contrasting colours were introduced with the island bench and tall cabinets in a dark wood colour (Melteca Burnished Wood) and the laminate floors in a medium brown colour.

“It all tones in well and has a very warm ambience with a feature window below the bench height bringing in natural light.” Megan adds.

Appliances used were all by Fisher and Paykel – including the French Door Fridge, the Elba gas stove and the dish drawers.

Anthony Clark says the family is “delighted with the transformation” and it all works well for them.

“The new design brings us together as a family. Our children (aged 10 and 13) use the island bench for lots of their activities – rather than carting stuff all through the house. They enjoy sitting there and do their homework while we are working in the kitchen and of course, it’s a great breakfast bar,” he says.

“My wife, Deanne, and I found the service from the whole team at Jag Kitchens was really good – right throughout the process. They listened to what we had to say and made it all very easy for us.

“They stuck to their schedules with everything installed on time and all the team members involved arriving punctually as planned. And their after-service was also good with a team member checking that everything had been finished perfectly the next day.”
